What is The Harbor?
The Harbor was founded in 2015, and is a Juvenile Assessment Center that houses several community providers all under one roof.
What does The Harbor do?
In its efforts to help families keep youth from getting involved in the criminal justice system, The Harbor has become a centerpoint of collaboration between multiple agencies in the community, including police departments, school districts, mental health services, and the support of city and state officials. At the Harbor, youth are provided with assessments to determine the needs of each individual. Once the needs are determined, staff will connect youth and their families with the appropriate services to address those needs. Case managers also follow up with youth to be sure they are in their prescribed program. The Harbor can refer youth and families to the following services:
- Family Counseling
- Mental Health Counseling
- Anger Management
- Youth Mentorship
- Substance Abuse Counseling
The Harbor and ACCI Lifeskills
With the common goal of reducing the criminal pipeline and recidivism rates, ACCI is now an approved service provider at The Harbor. ACCI’s mission has been to help people achieve their greatest potential by helping them recognize and reform faulty thinking patterns and self-defeating behavior. We work with Harbor case managers who refer their youth to ACCI courses. Understanding the importance of support and accountability, ACCI has built tools into the Lifeskills Link program that provide progress reports, and data points to aid case managers in this endeavor.
